FieldPaw publishes buying guides for US dog and cat owners. Our job is to make product tradeoffs easier to understand, not to turn a retailer catalog into a list of winners. We separate editorial research from affiliate-link administration and explain the limits of our evidence.
What informs our recommendations
We begin with a defined household problem and a consistent set of criteria. Depending on the category, those criteria may include fit, materials, stability, cleaning, replacement parts, power or connectivity requirements, published safety information, warranty terms, and recurring costs. Product facts are checked against current manufacturer documentation and, when relevant, an independent standards or safety organization.
What “best” means
A “best” label means the product appears to fit the stated use case better than the other options considered at the time of the update. It is not a universal score, a guarantee, or a claim that every pet will accept the product. Each recommendation includes a best-fit statement and reasons an owner may prefer another option.
Testing and first-hand experience
FieldPaw does not describe a product as tested, reviewed in the home, or recommended by a veterinarian unless that work actually occurred and the method is disclosed. Research based on manuals and manufacturer documentation is identified as research. We do not invent durability results, medical outcomes, customer quotations, ratings, or personal experience.
Sales signals and retailer data
Availability, replacement support, category relevance, and established demand may help determine which products deserve comparison. Retailer star ratings, review counts, bestseller badges, prices, and sales ranks are not converted into FieldPaw scores. Amazon Program Content is not sent to an AI system or used for automated product ranking.
Affiliate relationships
Affiliate availability does not change the comparison criteria or remove a product’s drawbacks. Amazon links are added only after the exact product identifier is checked and approved. FieldPaw does not display an Amazon price in its initial publishing system; visitors are directed to check current availability on Amazon.
AI-assisted work
AI tools may assist with outlining, editing, consistency checks, and original editorial imagery. A human remains responsible for source selection, product mapping, factual review, compliance, and publication. AI-generated lifestyle images are illustrative and are not photographs of the named products or evidence of product testing.
Corrections and updates
Models, manuals, subscriptions, and safety information change. We update useful guidance when a product is revised, unavailable, replaced, or recalled rather than automatically deleting the article. Material corrections should be noted in the article when they could affect a buying decision.
